Wiel Arets interest in product design began with an invitation to participate in the 'Tea & Coffee Towers' project, commissioned in 2003 by the Italian kitchenwares company Alessi. In April 2007, Wiel Arets presented his design 'The Alessi dOt Bathroom': a new complete scenario of the bathroom that was created together with the Hispanic-Swiss Laufen (for sanitary ware and furnishings) and the Finnish Oras (for faucets). Since then the collaboration has matured to include a salt shaker, pepper mill, corkscrew, coffee maker, mixer, tea-and-coffee piazza, espresso cup, saucer and spoon, tableware, hand mixer, and other kitchen products, as well as jewelry, a mobile phone, and a wristwatch; in 2009 Wiel Arets Architects received the Good Design Award for the Salt.it, Pepper.it, and Screw.it Alessi products.
